LONDON, England - Mika Hakkinen has admitted he was wrong about rookie Max Verstappen.

When Red Bull announced in August 2014 that the 17-year-old would make his debut for Toro Rosso in 2015 Hakkinen said: "In no case is a driver ready for Formula 1 at 17."

The former McLaren driver and double Formula 1 champion said back then: "As a manager or a father, I would never let a driver as young as that race in F1."
