15:00 Kvyat on used Mediums now and his running in P14 ahead of Massa and behind Magnussen.
14:58 Perez and Hulkenberg doing very similar times, unsurprisingly.
14:56 Sainz doing well on his softs, he has done 14 laps on them.
14:55 Hamilton splits the two red cars! Goes inbetween Raikkonen and Vettel into P3.
14:54 Hamilton on the softs now as well! Can he pip his teammate and two Ferarri's?
14:53 Problem! Ferrari on the radio: "Slow down Kimi, slow down and box. We potentially have an issue. It seems like we have a fuel system problem Kimi, so slow down and box."
14:52 Alonso back on the turf now and running on softs!
14:50 Hamilton still in ninth position so far. Expect him to be at the top end of the grid after his run on softs.
14:50 As expected! Rosberg goes fastest with a time of 1:23.922, but only by a quarter of second ahead of Raikkonen.
14:47 Rosberg on the softs, expect him to go fastest.
14:44 Hulkenberg fails to split the two Red Bulls and slots in at 6th fastest in this session so far. 45 minutes left.
14:42 Verstappen posts a good time of 1:25.375 with his new wings just behind Ricciardo! While Vettel puts in a power lap and goes second fastest.
14:41 Ricciardo also running on softs as Sainz and Raikkonen still lead in one and two.
14:38 Vettel runs softs for the first time this session. Manages to go 10th fastest after a blunder.
14:37 One hour left in this session!
14:36 Alonso now out his car and looks happy with his time! Lovely to see the Spaniard in good spirits.
14:35 Magnussen now doing all the work in the Renault as he has to collect data for two cars now that Palmer is out of today's action.
14:33 Massa's car just showered sparks when he went off the track for a moment. Looked dangerous!
14:30 He said on the radio: "We're lucky this is downhill in the pits - it's stopped."
14:30 Button's car stopped working. Back in the garage.
14:29 Williams' Bottas on the softs now as well. Everyone following Ferrari's example.
14:27 Sainz goes second fastest! Also on the soft tyre though.
14:26 Raikkonen on the soft tyre, and he is lapping almost a second better than his previous lap.
14:25 Verstappen has just gone second quickest.
14:25 Hamilton now out on the mediums as well. Goes fastest with a time in the 1:25s
14:22 Vettel running strong in this session on his used mediums.
14:20 Green light on again! FP2 back underway.
14:17 TRIVIA: The first Grand Prix was held 66 years ago today in Silverstone.
14:16 Red Flag now waved on the track as they move the Renault out the way.
14:15 He was running on Medium tyres if that will help any theories as to what happened.
14:13 Palmer suffered his puncture immediately after the starting line! Looks like he his out of the session after not featuring in FP1.
14:12 Palmer gets hit with a puncture on his left rear! Virtual safety car out now.
14:10 Spotlight on Max Verstappen, the youngster seems to be composed being put in the hot seat. It is only Friday though, still a long way to go.
14:10 Championship Nico Rosberg now having a go on the track! Back on the mediums it seems.
14:10 Only to be beaten by Raikkonen and Magnussen.
14:06 Grosjean on the hards posts the fastest time five minutes into the session.
14:05 Raikkonen now out on the mediums.
14:05 Mediums and hards dominate the choice of tyre in the early stages of FP2.
14:05 Grosjean, Nasr, Gutierrez and Wehrlein follow closely behind.
14:05 Green light! FP2 is underway! Manor driver Rio Haryanto leads the pack!
14:00 Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz garnering plenty of support from their local crowd.
13:55 This session is to take place over 90 minutes, lets see if you can spot any improvements that need to be made with the cars today. Maybe even a possible race winner?
13:45 With plenty of upgrades made across the gird, will be interesting to see how much data teams can collect today and tomorrow morning.
13:40 Weather looks prime for drivers to burn some tyres. Sunshine hovers over the track.
13:25 Quite a few teams ran the hard compound tyres in FP1 with Manor, McLaren, Ferrari, Williams and Force India all trying them out.
13:20 It's also worth noting that Mercedes were running on Mediums while Ferrari on softs.
13:15 Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel took top spot during FP1, with teammate Kimi Raikkonen behind him. Silver Arrow duo Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton placed third and fourth fastest respectively.
13:10 Everyone has set times during FP1 in Spain, except for Renault development driver Esteban Ocon.
13:05 Just a reminder of what transpired during FP1: As all eyes and cameras looked to Max Verstappen in his Red Bull debut, it was Ferraris soft tyres that beat Mercedes mediums to the 1-2 in FP1 at Barcelona.
13:00 Welcome back to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya! Second practice to get underway in a few moments!
11:32 So that's it for FP1, join us in two hours for the build-up to FP2. Cheers!
11:31 Vettel tried to get out for one final lap but had to brake at the end of the pit lane and get a push back as he just missed the red light.
11:30 The chequered flag is out and FP1 ends with a Ferrari 1-2 followed by a Mercedes 3-4. Ferrari, though, set their times on the soft Pirellis while Mercedes used the slower medium tyres. Red Bull 5-6 with Ricciardo ahead of Verstappen and Bottas P7.
11:27 It looks as if Manor will be finishing FP1 slowest of all with Wehrlein ahead of Haryanto. They are separated by almost a full second in the German's favour.
11:24 Vettel is back out on his used soft tyres as too are both Mercedes drivers, they are lapping on the mediums.
11:20 Following on his earlier spin at Turn 5, Massa now runs off the track at that same corner.
11:19 Button, who is P19, is reportedly having issues with his steering.
11:18 So far so good for McLaren and their updates as Alonso is inside the top ten but only barely. He is P10.
11:14 Over at Red Bull, Ricciardo is P5, one place ahead of Verstappen. They are separated by just under two-tenths.
11:09 Sainz improves to eighth place, Kvyat is P12.
11:06 Grosjean reports: "The car is a disaster at low speed."
11:05 Times from Haas with Grosjean slotting into 15th place and Gutierrez P16.
11:03 Vettel puts a new set of softs on his Ferrari and hits the front. A 1:23.951 for the German driver.
10:59 Ocon will not be setting a time this season as Renault have reported an undisclosed problem that won't be fixed before the end of the session.
10:58 Verstappen has swapped his hard tyres for the mediums and jumps up to fifth place. 1.5s down on Raikkonen's best, which was set on the soft rubber.
10:55 Hamilton is also back out on a new set of medium tyres.
10:54 Rosberg is back out on track with a new set of medium tyres and closes the gap to Raikkonen by three-tenths.
10:50 Ocon is another who has yet to set a time. He reportedly had a puncture earlier.
10:49 We are still waiting for times from either Haas driver with both Grosjean and Gutierrez covering 3 laps but pitting without setting a time.
10:44 Soft tyre run for Raikkonen puts him P1 with a 1:24.089.
10:43 Raikkonen breaks the silence and Ocon follows him out.
10:40 A slight pause in the action as the drivers head back to the pits having used their first set of tyres.
10:39 Verstappen has jumped up to seventh place on the hard tyre. He is 2 seconds off the pace.
10:38 Top four are Rosberg, Vettel, Hamilton, Raikkonen. Mercedes, Ferrari, Mercedes, Ferrari. Next in line is Bottas in the Williams and Ricciardo in the Red Bull.
10:34 A 1:24.880 for Rosberg on the mediums puts him back at the front.
10:31 A minor problem for Verstappen, who reports "I can't accelerate". And then off he goes so clearly that has been resolved.
10:29 Massa spins Turn 5.
10:28 Change at the top as Vettel, using the soft tyres, edges Rosberg, who was on the mediums. It is a 1:25.193 for the Ferrari driver.
10:27 A lot of smoke at Force India coming from Perez's car. Asked if he could "see smoke", he responded: "Yes, I don't know if it's the brakes or the engine."
10:23 A moment for Max as he out-brakes himself and locks up getting his RB12 back onto the track.
10:22 Raikkonen has gradually shaved time off Mercedes' lead but the gap is still 0.242s.
10:21 Vettel's car is getting some wheels and getting ready to go. Ferrari will be running the new front win on his SF16-H.
10:20 Button heads out to join the fray.
10:19 More times coming through with Raikkonen up to third, 0.261 down, Hulkenberg is fourth ahead of Nasa, Ericsson and Haryanto.
10:18 Mercedes, who have updated their sidepod and floor, are currently putting the new front wing on Hamilton's car. Rosberg's now has the old one.
10:14 Kvyat is marking his seat in the STR11, pointing out a few places where he needs some adjustments made.
10:13 More laps, more improvements with Rosberg shaving a tenth off his time and Hamilton closing the gap to 0.002 seconds. Could it get any closer!
10:09 Rosberg lowers the benchmark to a 1:25.4 and Hamlton ups his pace to a 1:25.9.
10:08 A 1:29.834 for Hamilton is the first time on the board. Rosberg pips him with a 1:26.951.
10:06 Hamilton is running his fourth MGU-H this weekend. His last two failed in qualifying in China and two weeks later in Russia. He is running an updated version this weekend which is why he is onto number four.
10:05 Mercedes make their first appearance with Hamilton taking to the track followed by Rosberg.
10:04 Kvyat is out there, putting in his first lap back with Toro Rosso as Marko watches on.
10:03 Only Rosberg and Hamilton have yet to venture out of the pits.
10:01 One by one the drivers head out for their installation laps with Nico Hulkenberg the latest to put in his lap.
10:01 One by one the drivers head out for their installation laps with Nico Hulkenberg the latest to put in his lap.
10:00 Green light and we are go at Barcelona with Romain Grosjean the first driver out followed by Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen.
09:53 One test driver in action with Esteban Ocon replacing Jolyon Palmer at Renault. That, though, is just for this session with Palmer confident his place at the team is not under threat.
09:52 Another thing to watch out for this weekend is the upgrades. Spain, the start of the European leg, usually sees a raft of upgrades from all the teams and today isn't expected to be any different. Front wings, rear wings, floors, ducts and even a streamlined VJM09 should be out on track shortly.
09:47 The Mercedes driver has not won a grand prix since last year's Austin race while his team-mate Nico Rosberg has seven on the trot. By the way, only three drivers have ever won the opening four races of the season and all three won that year's World title. Can Rosberg add his name to that list? He's really hoping he can but says he's not getting carried away.
09:43 How Verstappen will cope against Daniel Ricciardo is one hot topic this weekend, so too is whether Lewis Hamilton can finally get back to winning ways.
09:36 Max, though, reckons it was more of a risk for Red Bull to place him with Toro Rosso last season then it is to promote him ahead of race five this season. Only time will tell.
09:35 And while thoughts go out to Kvyat, who was sacked on the phone by Helmut Marko while watching Game of Thrones (fitting don't you think?), there is a lot of excitement surrounding Verstappen's debut as he is a star for the future or even the now. There, however, concerns about how he will cope with the pressure of racing for a top team.
09:33 All eyes - and cameras - are on 18-year-old Max Verstappen this morning as he makes his Red Bull Racing debut. In the wake of the Russian GP, the team announced that Daniil Kvyat was being demoted to Toro Rosso with his RB12 going to Dutch teenager Verstappen.
09:30 Welcome to a sunny Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the first of Friday's two practice sessions for the Spanish Grand Prix. All times are local and this session runs for 90 minutes starting on the hour.
