14:21 Palmer runs wide again after locking up. In for another disappointing weekend?
14:20 Hamilton sets a time of 1:38.311 and pips Vettel to the fastest lap of the day on soft tyres.

14:10 Interestingly, Raikkonen slower than Perez by 0.04secs.
14:08 As expected, Vettel goes fastest now and records a 1m39.326s, good first lap from the German there. Wonder how much data Ferrari aim to collect today.
14:07 Gutierrez sets the first time of the day with a 1m43.156s on softs.
14:06 Vettel out the pits now withe his red Ferrari.
14:05 Everyone seems to be starting on the soft tyres in their early stint.

14:00 Sochi Autodrom looks beautiful today, slight wind speed of 3.6km/ph whistling through the track.
13:50 We're almost underway! Just a few last minute adjustments to make before drivers go out for the second practice session of the Russian Grand Prix.
13:40 Daniel Ricciardo on the aeroscreen that Red Bull ran during FP1: "Basically the part of the structure is in line with the mirrors, where the mirror structure is, so it does not really block any more vision than what we do have already with the mirrors, and the front is pretty open."
13:30 Despite the cold weather in Sochi, it is predicted that teams should expect a dry a track for the rest of the day.
13:10 Everyone on the grid has set lap times so far, with the two Ferrari's behind the Mercedes duo.
13:05 Just a little reminder of what took place during FP1: Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were comfortably quickest in FP1 at Sochi, a session in which Red Bulls aeroscreen made its on-track debut.
13:00 Welcome back to the Sochi Autodrom! Second practice to get underway soon!
11:32 That is it for now, join us again in two hours for the build-up to FP2.

11:09 Vettel has jumped up to third place but is 1.4s off the pace. Raikkonen improves to sixth.

10:54 First lap for Massa as he heads out in the Williams.
10:53 Manor's Dave Ryan reports that it is a power steering problem that has curtailed Haryanto's running.
10:52 Still waiting for times from Gutierrez, who has done just two laps, Haryanto, who covered just one, and Massa, who has yet to leave the pits this morning.
10:49 Bottas is topping the km in the speedtrap on 329.7km while Hamilton is second, 328.4km.
10:47 Sirotkin breaks the silence as he heads out in Magnussen's Renault. He is P14 and a full second off Palmer's time.

10:27 Also issues at Williams as Felipe Massa's car is sans the floor with a reported clutch problem.
10:24 Problems over at Ferrari as there are a bunch of people working on the rear wing of his car. Could potentially be a DRS problem. The Finn, though, is still sitting in his car.
10:22 The track is getting busy now as several more drivers are out including Ricciardo sans the aeroscreen.
10:21 Bottas on the super-softs slides into third place but is over two seconds down on Hamilton, whose time was set on the softs.

10:05 Ricciardo returns to the pits and that, ladies and gents, was the first lap with Red Bull's proposed cockpit protection device. Now back to the real work!
10:04 The aeroscreen - and Ferrari's halo - have been scoffed at by Formula 1 purists but given the horrific accidents - and deaths - in recent years it does seem F1 has to follow this path.
10:03 It is not a bad looking device, although you can't see much of the driver from the front. You can still see Ricciardo's distinct helmet side-on.
10:02 And here comes Ricciardo with the aeroscreen on his RB12!
10:00 The pit lane light is green and FP1 is underway with drivers immediately heading out.
09:57 It is a cool start to the day with the air temperature just 14'C.
09:48 A quick look at the standings has Nico Rosberg leading the way with a perfect 75 having won the first three races of this season. Lewis Hamilton is second, 36 points behind, with Ricciardo a further three of the pace. The Aussie has a hat-trick of P4s to his name. Sebastian Vettel is fourth with 33 points, three behind Ricciardo, while Kimi Raikkonen is P5. He has 28 points to his name.
09:43 Force India also have a test driver lined up for FP1 with Alfonso Celis Jr in action. He will replace Nico Hulkenberg this morning while Sirotkin will be driving Kevin Magnussen's Renault.
09:41 There will also be more than one Russian driver on the track this morning as Daniil Kvyat will be joined by Sergey Sirotkin. Sirotkin signed with Renault earlier this week as their test driver and will take part in FP1 at his home track.
09:34 The big news this morning is that Red Bull Racing will run their aeroscreen - previously known as the canopy - this morning. The device, which was fitted to Daniel Ricciardo's RB12 on Thursday, is Red Bull's answer to Ferrari's halo and the four-time World Champions are hoping it will get the nod as the FIA looks to introduce cockpit protection next season.
09:30 Welcome to the Sochi Autodrom, home of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, home of Daniil Kvyat and home to Formula 1's Russian Grand Prix. All times are local.
