15:23 We have a full grid out on the circuit now, except Hamilton.
15;22 Amazingly, Rosberg did 20 laps on the supersofts.
15:22 Palmer out and about on the Hungaroring. Looks like he is enjoying himself.
15:20 Sainz out!
15:18 Just under 15 minutes left in the session and Rosberg, Ricciardo and Vettel are currently occupying the top three spots respectively.
15:16 Seems to be an engine failure there for the Sauber.
15:14 Nasr out! He's being pushed by the Marshals.
15:11 Magnussen spins out! He rejoins though, but his tyres definitely took a beating.
15:09 Very busy track at the moment, only Alonso and Hamilton not on the circuit.
15:07 Button running in the top ten while his teammate Fernando Alonso in one place behind him in P7.
15:05 Raikkonen back on softs now!
15:04 Just under 30 minutes to go!
15:02 Luckily for drivers, there are now yellow kerbs because a lot of them are running really wide here today.
15:00 Hulkenberg has done 13 laps on his supersofts.
14:59 Doesn't look like Hamilton will be making an appearance, Mercedes won't risk it.
14:56 Long stints now across the grid during the session. Expect no more new times. Teams are just seeing how long they can make the tyres last.
14;54 On a side note, Mercedes have yet to win a race in Budapest during the V6 era.
14:53 Carlos Sainz will be investigated after the session. Apparently he crossed the pitlane line illegally.
14:51 Raikkonen still running in fifth, Hulkenberg behind him in sixth and Perez in seventh.
14:50 Everyone in the pits now except the top three! They probably enjoying the space out there.
14:48 Hamilton has now dropped to fourth on the times.
14:46 Verstappen and Ricciardo putting in some serious laps times now!
14:42 Grosjean with another problem: "There is a problem on the brakes."
14:40 Rosberg, Raikkonen and Ricciardo out there now! with Massa and Bottas pulling in.
14:39 Massa and Bottas the only drivers in the top ten still out there.
14:37 Ricciardo and Verstappen in the pits now. The Aussie was running in P4 while the Dutchman was in P8.
14:36 Wonderful! Hulkenberg goes fifth fastest with a 1:22.622
14:35 A tweet from the Mercedes account says: Although he (Hamilton) made it back to garage, car needs to be fully stripped & checked after impact with barrier
14:34 As expected, Rosberg goes fastest now for the time being: 1:20.435
14:32 Raikkonen has done five laps on supersofts and is still only third on the times.
14:30 One hour left in this session! Hamilton still top of the session despite crashing out earlier.
14:29 Drivers now making the transition onto supersofts. Will be interesting to see what the differences are like between the three compounds.
14:28 Bottas will be investigate after the session for failing to keep on the correct side of a marker bollard coming into the pitlane.
14:26 Haryanto told to pit by his crew.
14:25 Vettel currently running in p17. He is on used softs though.
14:24 Ricciardo and Verstappen also rejoins the circuit now.
14:23 Lots of slips and slides today on this Monaco-esque track.
14:22 Session is underway again! Rosberg ready to going.
14:21 The Mercedes pit crew put a new wing on Hamilton's car. Could we still see him out for a couple more laps today?
14:20 The session is still red flagged. The marshals trying to fix the barrier he crashed into.
14:19 From the looks of things, doesn't look like Hamilton has done serious damage to his car. Minor fixes expected.
14:18 He crawls slowly back to the pits from Turn 11!
14:17 RED FLAG! Hamilton crashes! He goes flying into the barrier!
14:17 Hamilton sets fastest lap: 1:21.960.
14:17 Haryanto spins out! He rejoins the track though shortly after.
14:16 Raikkonen suffers a big over steer there! He goes back into the pits following the scare.
14:14 Hamilton out there now having fun on yellow strip tyres.
14:12 Rosberg goes fastest! Destroys Raikkonen's quickest lap with a 1:21.961.
14:11 Vettel retreats to the pits after yet another gearbox problem. Nothing serious reported yet though...
14:10 The German runs wide on one of the the turns. Not the brightest of starts after securing a two-year extension with Mercedes.
14:10 Rosberg gets going in Budapest, also on the softs.
14:08 Vettel tells his team his gearbox is "losing sync".
14;07 Lewis Hamilton in his Silver Arrow. How many laps will he do today?
14:05 Grosjean sets 1:24.524 as an opening lap time/ Raikkonen betters that with a 1:23.218.
14:03 Raikkonen out there now on the softs. No one has put in a first flying lap of the session yet.
14:01 Gutierrez the first out the blocks! Close call there leaving the pits though, almost collided with a Manor car. Throwback to the beginning of the season?
14:00 Green light! 90 minutes of speed and power underway!
13:58 A closer look at the track shows drivers really going hard on the kerbs! Burning tyres properly there.
13:56 Plenty of buzz around the track today. Hungarians love their F1!
13:55 Also worth noting, Red Bull only ran soft tyres during FP1.
13:52 We're almost underway! Let's see what kind of data teams can gather here today and whether it will be valuable or not...
13:50 On the podium last year were: P1: Sebastian Vettel. P2: Daniil Kvyat, P3; Daniel Ricciardo.
13:48 Going into Sunday's race, Hamilton will be chasing his fifth Hungarian GP title, which will make him the most successful driver in Budapest.
13:46 interestingly, It was the ninth time this seson that Mercedes managed to top FP1 in one-two formation.
13:44 Surprisingly, Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat was the 19th quickest after FP1. The Russian will be hoping to improve on that in the second session.
13:42 Weather update: The sun is still shining! Hopefully the conditions will carry on throughout the weekend. Although rain does make a race more exciting now and then...
13:40 Encouragingly, McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso were in touching distance of Red Bull. They also managed to record lap times faster than Williams and Force India.
13:35 Ferrari and Red Bull look well off the pace which could set off alarm bells going into the second session.
13:32 Just a recap of what occured during FP1: Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were 1.6s quicker than their nearest rival in Hungary.
13:30 Welcome back to the Hungaroring! We're underway in 30 minutes for another 90 minute practice session.
11:32 That is it for now, please join us in two hours for the build-up to FP2. Cheers.
11:31 A 1:21.347 for the World Champ, with Rosberg second and Vettel third.
11:30 The chequered flag is out and Hamilton claims the weekend's first P1.
11:29 Another moment for Alonso at Turn 5 as he is once again off the track.
11:28 Still no sign of Palmer, who is out of his car. Just six laps on the board for the Brit.
11:25 Raikkonen improved to fourth place with a 1:23.0 but couldn't up that again as he ran a bit wide at Turn 11.
11:24 Alonso is on a flier and is challenging Button for seventh place. He takes it by 0.03s ahead of his team-mate.
11:22 A massive moment for Nasr as he touches the wet bits and pulls off a great save.
11:20 Raikkonen is up to sixth despite a slide through the final corner.
11:16 Now Button has a spin at Turn 5, joining Alonso on the list of those getting it wrong there.
11:15 Palmer is slowest of all at the moment as the Brit has managed just six laps due to a "little niggle on Jo's car".
11:14 The Mercedes drivers are back out on track on used tyres and clearly with heavy fuel loads as they are seconds away from their earlier best times.
11:11 Button improves to sixth place on the soft tyres.
11:08 Another off for Alonso as he struggling for grip around the circuit.
11:07 Vettel moves up to third place but his lap time was set on the supersoft tyres. And he is still 1.6s short of Hamilton's P1 time.
11:04 Verstappen improves to third place, 2.1s down. He put in his latest lap on the soft tyres.
11:02 Vettel on the supersofts has a spin at Turn 12 as he again touches a damp kerb.
11:00 Ricciardo is also still out on the soft tyres but seems to be struggling with front end grip.
10:59 Hulkenberg has moved up fourth place on the softs while Massa is P5.
10:56 Alonso has a spin in the final corner as a rather shocked Button watches on.
10:55 Hamilton responds with a flier! Purple, purple and purple again for a 1:21.347.
10:52 Rosberg is immediately quicker than his previous best, purple in the first and second sectors and again in the third. It is a 1:21.584 for the German.
10:49 Rosberg heads out on a set of the supersoft tyres.
10:47 Ocon is out on the soft tyres and is currently P15 on the timesheets.
10:43 The top five - Rosberg, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Verstappen and Button - all set their times on the soft tyres. Vettel in sixth used the supersofts.
10:41 Button reports "bottoming into Turn 1" and asks McLaren to have a look at it as he's not happy.
10:40 The drivers are back in the pits as they have to hand their first set of tyres back to Pirelli after the first 40 minutes.
10:38 The new asphalt is helping lower the lap times with Rosberg's P1 time just 8/10ths off of last year's pole position time.
10:35 Rosberg is back in P1 with a 1:22.822, 0.642s up on Hamilton.
10:34 A huge moment for Vettel as he runs it wide and hits a puddle. Good save!
10:32 Hamilton hits the front with a 1:23.464, 0.624s up on Rosberg, who calls for a "change of steering wheel".
10:31 Raikkonen jumps up to second, 0.8s down, as Perez has a slide showing how slippery it still is out there.
10:30 Rosberg improves to a 1:24.088 as we now have 14 times on the board.
10:28 Hamilton lowers the benchmark to a 1:26.106, which puts him 0.026s up on Raikkonen.
10:25 Now it is a 1:26.7 for the Williams driver, Alonso is 0.1s down, Rosberg 1.2s off the pace, and a whole bunch of cars having joined the party.
10:24 Bottas lowers the benchmark to a 1:27.1, Alonso is 0.7s slower and Rosberg is out on a soft tyre run.
10:23 It is a 1:28.7 for Bottas.
10:22 The Williams driver stays out for a second lap so we may actually get the morning's first lap time. Nasr is back out and so is Alonso.
10:21 Bottas is out on the slick tyres, the yellow marked softs.
10:19 Not exactly an exciting start to the session as Hamilton is back in and now Nasr is out on what is a rather slow lap. Great news for Sauber this week is that the team has been sold to Longbow Finance, putting an end to their money troubles.
10:18 Hamilton is back out and this time he is joined by Manor's Haryanto. Massa is back in the pits.
10:17 Massa joins the Mercedes pairing out on track as Rosberg heads back in, followed by Hamilton.
10:14 Ocon pits after one lap and so too does Rosberg, but he is back out immediately as he again practices a start on his way out. Hamilton follows suit.
10:12 Ocon breaks the silence as he heads out, followed by Rosberg, who practices a start at the end of the pit lane.
10:09 Button and Alonso are having a chat outside the McLaren garage - it is a photographers dream come true judge by the number of them surrounding the drivers.
10:07 Installation laps over and the drivers are all back in the pits.
10:05 Hamilton, who trails Rosberg by a single point in the standings, heads out for his installation lap.
10:03 In fact all the drivers except Hamilton has been out with Rosberg making a big splash as he hits a puddle on one of the kerbs.
10:02 Leclerc, Nico Hulkenberg, Felipe Nasr, Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso, Rio Haryanto and Sergio Perez are the next out, all on the inters as there are some damp patches following overnight rain.
10:00 The light goes green and Pascal Wehrlein is the first driver out ahead of Vettel, Valtteri Bottas, Kimi Raikkonen, Ocon, Daniel Ricciardo, Danill Kvyat, Jolyon Palmer, Romain Grosjean, Carlos Sainz, Felipe Massa, Marcus Ericsson, Rosberg and Jenson Button.
09:58 Charles Leclerc and Esteban Ocon are the two tester drivers in action today for Haas and Renault respectively.
09:56 Track temperature is at 25'C as await the start at an overcast Hungaroring.
09:52 Sebastian Vettel will arrive on Sunday's grid as the defending Hungarian GP champ having taken the title off Daniel Ricciardo, who won in 2014. In fact this track is the only circuit that Mercedes have not won on since F1 swapped to the V6 engines.
09:43 And motorsport's governing body has also stepped into the future with the installation of an electronic system at Turns 4 and 11 to monitor track limits. In Turns 4 and 11 the new double kerb has been installed and the artificial grass removed, a statement from the FIA read. However, the run-off areas behind the kerbs have been set at the same height as the kerbs themselves, the required deterrent is therefore not present. With this in mind we have installed loops 1.6m from the track edge which will alert us when a car has all four wheels off the track in these two locations.
09:41 Other news in is that the FIA have tightened the regulations on radio communications in the wake of Rosberg's British GP penalty. Under the new directive issued ahead of the Hungarian GP, teams can inform the driver of an indication of a problem with the car. However, any message of this sort must include an irreversible instruction to enter the pits to rectify the problem or to retire the car.
09:34 The big breaking news just in this morning is that Nico Rosberg has signed a new two-year deal with Mercedes. That will see the championship leader remain at the team until the end of the 2018 season, the same time that Lewis Hamilton's contract expires.
09:30 Welcome to the Hungaroring, home of the Hungarian Grand Prix. All times are local.
