JEREZ, Spain - Denmark's Kevin Magnussen was the fastest Formula 1 driver in the McLaren MP4-29, whilst reigning Formula 1 champion Red Bull struggled on Day 3 of pre-season testing in Jerez, southern Spain.
Magnussen took over from team mate Jenson Button, fastest in the morning, for the afternoon session and bettered the Briton's mark with 1min23.276. Williams' Felipe Massa was second, Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton third as his Mercedes continued to pile on the kilometres .
Hamilton didn't match team mate Nico Rosberg's 97-lap effort from Wednesday but was the busiest man on the track as he went around 62 times.
FIRST APPEARANCES
By contrast, it was another frustrating day for Red Bull and its new driver Daniel Ricciardo; who only managed three laps before the Austrian team called a stop to the day's work. Red Bull only completed 14 laps over the three days and seemed well behind its title rivals with only nine more days testing to come before the season gets under way for real in Australia in March.
Another former champion, Fernando Alonso, also made his first appearance of the season in the Ferrari F14-T. The Spaniard's arrival drew a much larger crowd than in the previous two sessions and Ferrari enjoyed another satisfactory day as Alonso finished fifth-fastest after completing 58 laps.
