ROME, Italy - Polish former Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica, recovering from serious injuries suffered in a rally crash in February, 2011, has slipped on ice and broken an ankle.
Kubica, 26, fell while walking near his home iin the northern Italian region of Tuscany, the Ansa news agency reported. Sources at the local hospital where Kubica was initially treated said his right ankle had a "microfracture".
AGGRAVATED
There were also suggestions that Kubica aggravated the right tibia fracture he suffered during the life-threatening high-speed rally accident.
Doctors splinted the new injury and sent Kubica to a bigger hospital to aid his recovery.
The new injury could delay the return to the track for the former Renault driver. He did not compete in the 2011 F1 season.
His progress was judged by doctors to be excellent, thanks to an intensive training regime.
