Hung-up Hamilton not too happy

Lewis Hamilton has blamed his failing to win the 2010 Formula 1 World championship – at least partly – on "personal problems”.

He's now trying to banish "outside intrusions" ahead of the 2010 season to avoid a repetition of a 2010 season that he rated as “tough” and “six out of 10”.

Hamilton, 25, was giving a rare insight during a radio interview into issues troubling him away from the track; he hoped he could "smooth everything off”. is his Pussycat Doll not playing nicely?

The McLaren driver's 2010 season began to deteriorate in March after he decided to drop his father Anthony, the man he has said gave his everything to help make him the 2008 champion, as his manager.

'IT'S NOT JUST DRIVING...'

Hamilton won only three of the season’s 19 races and was fourth in the Drivers’ championship.

Hamilton told BBC Radio One: "The personal life, the way things have gone, have not been as smooth and as happy as they could have been and to do what I do is a combination of many, many things.

"It's not just arriving at the race track and driving, it's your appearances, it's your mood swings, it's the people around you - your family and your friends - and the time that you are able to give to them and the relationship that you have with them.

"As soon as some of those things are off - and you've not got all those pieces of the puzzle in place - then it makes it very hard to do other aspects of your life as easily. The key I think to life is getting all those pieces of the puzzle in place.

NICOLE'S OTHER LIFE: She's usually seen as Lewis Hamilton's girlfriend but singer and actress Nicole Scherzinger is also famous and has a career - she played Trixie in late 2010 a New York "tribute" to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" with Jorge Garcia (left) and Lucas Grabeel. Is young Lewis jealous?.

Hamilton's relationship with Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger does not appear to be one of his problems; he indicated the romance - often described as on/off in the British media - was on track... “my girl”, he called her.

"My plan is to make sure that in 2011 I will be 100% clear in my mind and have no outside intrusions mentally.”

Hamilton was still in the hunt for the 2010 F1 title until the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi in November but finished 16 points behind Red Bull winner Sebastian Vettel in the Drivers' championship.

"It's been a long time since I finished out of the top three of a championship," Hamilton said. "Finishing fourth is not something of which I'm particularly proud.

"We had a solid couple of bad races where I lost points which would have put me in a much stronger position."

The 2011 season will open on March 13 in Bahrain.
