Montreal - Britain's Lewis Hamilton, driving a McLaren, won the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday for the first victory of his Formula One career.
Championship leader Hamilton, the sport's first black driver, started from pole position and held on to become the first rookie race winner since Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya with Williams in 2001.
Germany's Nick Heidfeld was second for BMW Sauber and Austrian Alexander Wurz third for Williams.
