LONDON, England - Speculation about Lewis Hamilton's future could soon come to an end.
He's told Russian news agency Ria Novosti that he's preparing to negotiate with McLaren about 2013 - and beyond.
"We haven't sat down and discussed anything but I'm sure, over the summer break, it would be nice to get something in place," Hamilton said.
There have been rumours about his alternatives beyond 2012 but he's indicated that a new deal with McLaren was likely.
MOVING FORWARD
"These people have supported me; these are the people that got me into F1," he said, "but, you know, I want to win. I'm not that young any more so I want to make sure that whatever I do I make the right decision to maximise my career.
"I just need to make sure I'm winning."
Even after a performance slump for the British team, he's determined to look beyond recent disappointments.
"You have to base decisions on a much longer period; half a year cannot decide six years of partnership [in F1] - or, actually, 13 years - I've been with them since I was 13, so it's 14 years.”
