F1 salutes injured Kubica

The highly competitive world of Formula 1 sent a collective get well message to the injured Renault driver Robert Kubica during a test session at Jerez on February 10, 2011

Kubica would have been testing Renault's R31 in Jerez had he not suffered severe injuries following a crash at a rally in Italy. The recovering Polish driver faces the prospect of a year on the sidelines of F1.

The message 'Szybkiego powrotu do zdrowia Robert' - meaning 'get well quickly Robert' in Polish - was first posted on the website of the F1 teams association FOTA.

Then, as the cars began to filter out of the pits at Jerez on February 10, 2011, it emerged that every runner was carrying the same message somewhere on his car, including the new McLaren driven on its test debut by Lewis Hamilton.

"Very touching," said The Times' correspondent Kevin Eason on Twitter when he heard about the Kubica tributes.

Kubica, 26, is facing more surgery later, but for now he has moved out of the intensive care unit.

"We are sure he will get out of this and we can't wait to see him back on track," said Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali.
