Crash king Grosjean to be axed?

2012-11-30 06:45

RAMBO ROMAIN'S FIRST LAP ANTICS: Romain Grosjean nearly crushes Ferrari's Fernando Alonso as he takes his Lotus airborne during a first -ap crash during the 2012 Belgian F1 GP.

Heikki Kovalainen is being considered to replace crash-prone Romain Grosjean at Lotus in 2013.

Kovalainen is on the market, as is Caterham reportedly considering signing pay-driver Giedo van der Garde.

Despite the rookie's numerous incidents in 2012, Lotus says Grosjean is "more likely" than Kovalainen to line up alongside Kimi Raikkonen in the 2013 Formula 1 season.

Auto Motor und Sport correspondents believe Lotus is seriously considering ousting Grosjean. F1 correspondents Tobias Grunen and Michael Schmidt said: "Many suspect that Gerard Lopez will persuade Grosjean's sponsor Total to spend more money but even Total has a problem with this protege.

"The French oil company has a safety campaign for public roads and the face of a 'crash driver' doesn't fit."
