Big crash at Belgian F1 GP start

Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium - The Belgian Grand Prix got off to a chaotic start at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday with a multi-car pileup at the first bend.

The end result of the accident was that world championship leader Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) , former world champion Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) and France's Roman Grosjean (Lotus) were eliminated as the safety car came out.

The crash appeared to have been provoked by Grosjean trying to jump ahead of Hamilton who smashed into the back of the Frenchman's car which then was catapulted onto and over the front of Alonso's Ferrari.

Also out of the race with car damage was Sergio Perez in a Sauber. All four drivers were uninjured.

The race resumed several minutes later with pole-sitter Jenson Button in the lead.
