Alonso concedes 2011 title race

Fernando Alonso has given up on the 2011 F1 Drivers' title and says Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull deserved to be champions even if he and Ferrari win the 2011 Singapore F1 GP.

Alonso said Vettel had been in exceptional form and rarely made a mistake throughout the 2011 season.

RB7 VERY QUICK

"He's driving fantastically. I think this year he has made no mistakes or very few mistakes," he said. "Last year we had a bigger chance. I think the Red Bull was very dominant also last year, but had some trouble in some races.

"This year they improved all those problems. The car is as quick as in 2010 and I think he's the only driver who has finished all the races.

"When you have a dominant car it's easy to get pole or win but there's been some occasions through 2011 when the conditions were very tricky, like Canada or Silverstone, and he managed to pull a perfect lap in qualifying and a perfect race from start to finish.

"He has been the best driver in the best team with the best package - so they deserve to be where they are."

Alonso told reporters he was looking ahead to 2012 but, asked if he had given up all hopes of a miracle in 2011, admitted: "Yes."
