Porsche's RS road-racer tweaked

These images prove that the facelift handed down to Porsche's 911 range and given to the Coupe, Cabriolet, Targa and Turbo models recently, will soon become available for the high-performance GT3 RS, too.

The new GT3 RS was snapped in the French mountains were it was testing alongside the current model.

Cosmetic changes, in typical Zuffenhausen fashion, have been limited and the car will retain its "GT3 RS" side decals, coloured wheels, decorative strip and side mirrors finished in contrasting paint. Also, look out for the imposing rear wing endplates and race-ready roll cage.

RS's weight-saving components will include a polycarbonate rear window, and carbon fibre bonnet and rear wing.

Once again, the 3.6-litre flat-six, which it shares with the GT3, will be required to pound out 305 kW. This will propel the car to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds before it goes on to hit a top speed of 310 km/h.

To Naz: Good for you that you own these cars BUT YOUR STATEMENT IS ALL WRONG! Porsche is the only manufacturer making money not because they sell better cars but because they know how to invest their money. They are the only automobile company who made more profits through investments then into selling their actual product. Learn more about Porsche before creating facts only because you own one. I like the new cleaner front bumper of that Gt3 rs mk2, what a nice car.

The 2009 Cadillac Escalade is the first vehicle on the road with high and low beam LED lights if I remember correctly.

Wow. It'd be nice if the 'owner' of the Cayenne actually knew how to spell Cayenne. Nice try. Cheers.

The 997 MK1 GT3 and GT3/RS has a better looking front end and IMHO is the current "looker" in the 997 lineup. I don't like what they have done to the front spoiler in the 997 MK2 if these pics turn out to be accurate. LED lights are cool front and back and who can't use another 35HP!

Pieter, If you think the LED's used on Audis are of the off-the-DIY-store-shelf, then think again. Nobody else has done it yet because in the past, the heat generated by LED's of that size was very high and not acceptable for extended and repeated use. Audi was the first manufacturer to get around the heat issue and they will also be the first manufacturer to use a full-LED headlight assembly (driving, parking, low and high beams) in the not too distant future... Vorsprung Durch Technik Thank you very much... and yes BMW etc... will follow, mark my words

Sadly 90% of you obviously haven t actually owned or driven a Porsche. I have owned a 911 Turbo (996) and currently own a Ceyenne Turbo. The reason for Porsche being the only manufacturer actually making money is simply because they design cars which are technologically superior to their competitors, perform better than all their rivals overall and have interior quality (Ceyenne Turbo) which is the envy of even the likes of S-class owners... I highly recommend trying it before knocking its design (which still leaves most of you secretly drooling..) etc etc..

AK, i think you watch too much Topgear, why don't you form your OWN opinion! It's not about being lazy, (as their engine technology shows), but about keeping to it's lines. One can never mistake 911 for anything else but a 911. It's not for everyone, I know, it's for people that want to drive instead of pose.

never really been a huge Porsche fan, but getting won over by the sheer technology their engineers use. As to design still looking the same, why fix something that's not broken - Porsche are one of the few car manufacturers still making money, must be doing something right.

I'm surprised the Audi brigade has not mentioned the LED daytime lights on the bumper. Shouldn't Audi's most innovative and ground breaking idea be mentioned since nobody else would have thought of the complexities of getting an LED to shine when electricity flows through it?

I'd buy another car for the same price as this one, there are too many Porsches on the roads today

Sadly i have to disagree with AK , these days porche dont have such a good re-sale value. In 2005 i bought demo 2005 Porche GT3 RS with only 6000 kays for R1600000-00 ,a year later i wanted to sell it and the porche agents i bought the car from could only offer me R1000000-00. It only had 9000 kays at that point. I ended up selling it to a private person for R1150000-00. I lost a cool R450000-00 in one years time. Have to mention that the GT3 RS was excellent!!!!

Amazing !!!! Stil looks like it did in 95'... These people at Porche must be the laziest bunch of designers ever !!!! (But that is also why these cars have such a good re-sale value...) The more things chamge the more they stay the same.
