The VW Polo GTI will go on sale in the second half in 2005 and will be based on the face-lifted Polo which is due to be launched at the Geneva Motor Show.

Insiders say that the Polo GTI will feature a 1.8-litre turbo engine with a power output of 110 kW

This little hatch, which will apparently have a weight of 1 000 kg will sprint from 0-100km/h in about eight seconds. Top speed will be above 200 km/h.

The GTI model, which will be in two-door guise, will also look the part with sporty trim.

The face-lifted Polo will feature quite dramatic changes and will incorporate a new front design with single unit headlights. At the rear its styling will resemble that of the Golf 5.

There is no indication yet when the Polo GTI will hit local shores, but we expect it to go on sale in South Africa in the last quarter of 2005 or early 2006.
