Can this be the next generation Alfa 156? This is an artist's impression of how the replacement for the hugely successful 156 may look. It is expected to be known as the 157.

The 156 revived Alfa Romeo's great name and the bold and original styling proved to be popular. With this model Alfa increased its market share throughout the world.
Although the styling of the 157 will try to keep most of its predecessor's good genes it will probably appear on a General Motors and Fiat developed platform.
Already Alfa engines have received the GM treatment.
Because of the GM-Fiat alliance this Alfa can be much more GM-inspired than initially planned - especially under its skin.
Profitability is the key target for General Motors Europe - and the alliance with Fiat is a major element in the drive to reduce costs.
Besides major chassis components, Fiat and GM expect to share engines and transmissions. Perhaps one can expect many co-branded Opels and Fiats in the future, although it is stil not sure which future vehicles will share common components.
Because of the GM-Fiat alliance the 157 may also be destined for the American market, but that remains to be seen. Struggling times for the Italian motor manufacturer can influence the decision to start selling Alfa's in the US.
The GM-Fiat alliance can also lead to al full merger in the future.
