Stingray 'Vette reborn for movie

GM’s continued involvement as car vendor for the Transformers movie franchise has spawned a striking, Corvette Stingray concept car.

Show publically at the Chicago motor show this week, the concept movie car pays homage to the Stingray racing cars of the early 1960s. Poised for a starring role in the forthcoming Transformers sequel - Revenge of the Fallen – the Corvette based movie car will be known as Sideswipe.

Muscle car fans will remember the split window styling and Stingray badge very fondly...

Nobody quite knows where GM finds the money for its highly publicised movie car ventures, especially considering it’s burning through credit burdened American tax payers money currently.

Although it’s highly unlikely to ever go into production, the styling treatment of Sideswipe is superlative. From the central, quad rear exhausts and radical airflow guides to the traditional Stingray split rear-window and radical, slim line top wheel arches it’s absolutely epic in proportion and detail.

The Stingray concept (Sidewipe) and Bumblebee Camaro movie cars will be joined by a Volt, which plays Jolt, and a Chevy Beat and Trax, which will use the stage names Skids and Mudflap.

It's unlikely GM will actually build a Stingray road car like this. But to look at, it's worth of a world of expletives.

AWESOME! The Sting Ray (1963–1967) Corvettes are still amongst the most beautiful cars in the world!

It actually looks pretty cool! Can't wait to see it in action on the movie!
