Porsche 'sedan' set for China

A debut for Porsche's four-door Panamera, which already garnered much attention in its development stages, has been set.

The manufacturer has announced that its new four-door Panamera will be shown for the first time at Auto Shanghai in China on April 19.

Porsche SA previously told Wheels24 that the sedan will be available in South Africa from 2010.

The four-door, four-seater Gran Turismo will be powered by a range of six- and eight-cylinder powerplants with direct fuel injection. Power outputs will range from 223 kW to 373 kW.

At debut, a naturally aspirated V8 model and the flagship bi-turbo V8 will be showcased.

V6 and naturally aspirated V8 models come standard with rear-wheel drive, while the range-topping turbocharged model features PTM (Porsche Traction Management) with lightweight active all-wheel drive.

Depending on the model, a six-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed PDK double-clutch gearbox is available.

And while variable dampers come standard with the steel suspension, adaptive air suspension is an option, too. In Sport Plus Mode, the car can be lowered further to improve its centre of gravity and increase its aerodynamic potency.

Another option, Porsche's Dynamic Chassis Control, will then compensate for body roll in bends while increasing smoothness on bumpy roads, the manufacturer says.

I am still getting use to the cayenne. Somehow my mind cants accept porsche to be anything but a super car producer (and what awesome super cars they produce). But none the less the Cayenne is a great car and so is this. Looks great but that ass will have to take a little getting use to.

I feel sorry for those who designed this car. I'm guessing that it must have looked better on paper, because the final product looks ridiculous. No thanks to the disappointing looks, Porsche have tainted their brand with this one.

Unfortunately for Porche, they have been unable to produce "a new look". Thanks to the fans, sales drop radically if the new cars don't bare a striking resemblance to the 1900s classic. So basically anything Porche produce is either stretched, elongated and looks wrong anyway. Bently Continental GT :-). It's just the price that creates a cardiac jerk that requires a paid up funeral policy to remedy.

If there is one thing I can fault Porsche about is their designing of fog lights. Seriously, it like they don't car at all and just put lights there to serve a purpose. No Aesthetics! But I am sure this will make a lot of profit for the company.

Consult Aston Martin for a proper 4 door sports car

Its rear will seriously affect sales and could potentially be a risk for causing it to be a failure. I do not think Porsche comprehends the disability created by giving it a hatch rear end.

When Porsche decides to launch such an important vehicle in China, it simply reflects the rapidly changing international economical landscape.

What's the point of having a big four door saloon that looks like a hatch back? The front looks great but that ass ruins the entire car
