Electric bikes don’t come any better looking than this, the EV-0 RR. And according to its designers it will also deliver eye popping performance (which will come in handy when it competes at the inaugural TTXGP zero carbon fuel Grand Prix on 12 June.

First unveiled as a concept towards the end of 2008, we have now managed to get our hands on some more EV-0RR details.

The EV-0RR won’t be relying on carbon fuel for its propulsion, as can be expected, but to further boost its green credentials it employs renewable and sustainable materials for the construction of its chassis and bodywork according to its designers, Xenophya.

A carbon fibre monocoque frame houses two electric motors which are situated at the bottom of the bellypan, resulting in a very low centre of gravity. What really excites us design wise though, is the single-side front end which should also help increase stability.

Although the bike doesn’t rely on any fuel in the conventional sense, the designers have retained a fuel tank in the design so the rider has something to grip between his knees as he leans into the tight bends of the TTXGP track.

The EV-0RR is claimed to have the same power output, weight and speed as a 600cc superbike and on 12 June it will be put through its paces by 21-year old Olie Linsdell. Linsdell is the son of Isle of Man TT racer Steve Linsdell who is perhaps best known for the unlikely machines he straddled in the race. Now his son is looking to set to continue the tradition.



“By the end of my riding career this is going to be the way to go,” Linsdell junior is quoted as saying on the designers’ website, “so it seemed sensible for me to get involved and help make it work.”

The TTXGP is the world’s first clean emission Grand Prix, and is scheduled for 12 June 2009 on the Isle of Man’s Mountain Course. This race will provide a fresh international platform for electric bikes and the technology behind them.

The alternative GP is aimed at driving low-carbon technological innovation forward by proving that clean-emission transport technologies have matured and can be fun, fast and exciting.
