The Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade
This will bring a superbike within the reach of a larger group of motorcycle enthusiasts and new riders who want to experience race-bred machinery on the road.
In addition, customers who bought the 2006 models at launch prices earlier this year will receive a full refund in line with the newly announced retail pricing.
The CBR1000RR Fireblade now carries a price tag of R110 000 (was R115 000).
The CBR600RR now sells at R82 999 (was R87 950).
This represents a price reduction of around 5%.
Hiroaki Shibata, managing director of Honda SA, says the new prices have been made possible by a number of factors.
Strategies
"We studied market conditions and the future outlook carefully and reviewed our pricing strategies accordingly.
"As a customer-driven company, we are continuously investigating ways of offering outstanding products at realistic prices to enhance the Honda ownership experience.
"I believe sustained growth in the superbike category and our keen new prices for the highly-acclaimed CBR1000RR and CBR600RR models will help Honda maintain its leadership position in the South African motorcycle market," Shibata said.
"We are confident that, with the reduced pricing, we can reinforce our position of offering impeccably engineered riding machines that are exhilarating to experience and a pleasure to own from every point of view."
Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade
The Fireblade started the Superbike revolution back in 1992.
The most powerful and best handling RR yet offers even stronger performance - without an increase in engine capacity.
Instead Honda cut weight for quicker acceleration and sharper handling.
At the same time Honda has given the RR visual and technological ties with its famous RC211V MotoGP racing relative.
The new 998cc liquid-cooled inline four is shorter and more compact for an improved power-to-weight ratio and lighter, quicker handling.
It features RAM air induction and sequential electronic fuel injection for optimum performance.
Honda CBR600RR
The Honda CBR600RR is a true race replica with advanced technology and the latest Super Sports innovations.
The lightweight 599cc liquid-cooled inline four is a high-revving motor with a 15 000 r/min red line.
It features a unique start-up routine, with key recognition, LED indicator check procedure, and a speedometer countdown accompanied by the fuel pump that audibly comes online.
Dual sequential electronic fuel injection ensures effortless performance throughout its wide rev range with strong mid-range power.
A low-mass, hollow die-cast frame unites a fully adjustable inverted front fork - complete with racing class radial-mount brakes for sharp handling and superb control - with a large but light hybrid-formed swing arm for smooth, responsive cornering.
A compact, fully electronic instrument panel is one of the slimmest and lightest mounted on a bike.
Surrounding its large central dial-type revcounter are a large LCD on the right - incorporating a digital speed readout, dual trip and related warning indicators - and a smaller LCD on the left with fuel gauge and coolant temperature readouts.
The CBR600RR is also equipped with Honda's Ignition Security System (HISS).
This is a highly advanced anti-theft system incorporating a fail-safe electronic interlock. This prevents the engine from being started in any other way than with the original key.
