Surveillance cameras in Dallas, Texas, captured the moment when a reckless driver rear-ended a motorcyclist on an busy American highway.
On the video 25-year old Iraq war veteran Zacharie Perez is riding home on his Triumph 675 when a car fails to see him and crashes into him from the rear.
Perez said in an interview with ABC News: “The last thing I remember is basically just a loud noise, a loud crash, and I remember landing on the ground, trying to push myself back to the left lane, so that I wouldn’t get hit... Some of the witnesses came by and told me to stay down.”
Perez, who has since returned to work, suffered four broken vertebrae, a broken rib and a ruptured spleen. He said he was in excruciating pain at the time but admitted he’s “pretty fortunate” to have survived the accident.
“If I hadn't worn my helmet (as many US riders do) I don’t think I’d be here right now. I’d still be in the hospital or I’d probably be dead,” he said.
