Yamaha to Race in SA during 2013

A 'Team Yamaha' is to race again in SA National Superbike and Supersport championships after a three-year absence.

Yamaha Distributors SA has partnered with Emtek Racing to create Team Emtek Yamaha for the 2013 National Superbike championship with the R1 and the National Supersport championship with the R6.

The team, its riders still to be named, will be managed by John Mitchell, father of lady racer Janine, whilst Ricky Morias from Emtek Racing will be responsible for the technical side.

RIDERS' NAMES SOON

Mitchell explained: “Now that the 2013 racing rules are being aligned to those of the World Super Stock championship the limitations of the previous racing rules are a thing of the past. The limitations were why Yamaha opted to discontinue racing at the end of the 2009 season.

"We are securing our riders and a title sponsor for 2013 - the will be named soon - and are looking at campaigning two Yamaha R1 bikes in the National Superbike championship and two R6 machines in National Supersport. We have a lot of development to do but, with the assistance of Yamaha and its international success racing R1 and R6 machines and the expertise of Ricky Morias, we are well geared for the 2013 racing season."
