The Castrol Winterberg Enduro, the sixth and final round of the 2010 SA National Enduro Motorcycle championship, will take place on October 16 in the Loerie area of the Eastern Cape.
This year's Enduro - the 32nd! - will start at the Loerie Ruskamp outside Hankey in the Gamtoos Valley under, for the 15th time, the auspices of the organising Rover Motorcycle Club though this year, because of spreading farms, the club has had to keep the routes closer to Loerie.
The event will be spectator-friendly from various points on the special stages, especially near the camp.
The action will start on Saturday, October 16 at 8am in the camp. Competitors will tackle A (50km) and B (35km) loops along with two timed stages. Special 1 will be 12km long, Special Two 2 three kilometres. National competitors in the Open and 200cc Classes will have to complete these Special Stages four times.
Club and novice riders are welcome to compete but not on the specials.
Titles still to be won
Rovers club's Ross Guscott said competitors can expect several river-bed crossings and the rocky terrain will ensure a challenging race. The area has little rain so dry conditions will be a further test.
Some of the season's titles have been decided but a battle can be expected between the winner of all the enduro events this season, Jade Gutzeit (Yamaha and winner of this event in 2003 and 2005, and 2009 winner Altus de Wet (KTM).
The event will also finalise the championship standings with lots of movement possible on the points ladders.
