Pirro honours Marco with GP win

Italian rider Michele Pirro on a Moriwaki won the final Moto2 race of the season at Valencia on Sunday, prompting team boss Fausto Gresini to burst into tears.

A fortnight after his other rider, Marco Simoncelli was killed, during the 2011 Malaysian MotoGP.

Pirro, who used to ride in the Supersport world series, beat home Suter duo Mika Kallio of Finland and Switzerland's Dominique Aergerter.

New World champion Stefan Bradl of Germany wasn't able to celebrate in style as he crashed on lap four whiile running sixth.

Pirro took command a lap later when Japanese leader Yuki Takahashi took a heavy fall; he wasn't injured.

Pirro completed his dream weekend after registering his first pole start with his first win in the category, prompting the outpouring of emotion from Gresini.
