No longer the stuff of sci-fi magazines, electric motorcycles are set to go mainstream thanks in part to KTM’s long-awaited new Freeride E.
The zero-emissions Freeride E is an electric bike capable of nearly an hour’s worth of running at peak performance. Once the battery is drained it requires a 90-minute charge.
GOING FOR PERFORMANCE
At the heart of the Freeride E is a 300V battery and power electronics developed by KTM and a motor which delivers peak power of up to 22kW.
The motor has been developed with high performance in mind and with 42Nm of torque at its disposal needn’t feel inferior against petrol models.
KTM says: “A true revolution – the only fitting description of the Freeride E. As the first of the major motorcycle companies, KTM has taken on the challenge of developing a purely electrically driven off-road sport motorcycle for mass production.”
Acording to the company, the Freeride E is about pure riding enjoyment and the company wants to attract more riders to use electric bikes in off-road motorcycling. The Freeride E is emissions-free and almost silent.

DRIVING YOU UP THE WALL: More extreme stuff from the Freeride E - but, being battery-powered, it is quiet and pollution-free. Maybe they coule make our forests, parks and dunes accessible again?

“On the one hand we are ‘ready to race’ – and we want to stay that way with the latest technology. On the other, being the global No.1 in off-road motorcycling, we have a special responsibility for the preservation and development of off-roading areas."
