New 250cc racers ready to howl

Honda has launched an affordable production racer to coincide with the re-launch of the 250 Production racing series to the Regional motorcycle race calendar.

The CBR250R, seen by Honda as the perfect stepping-stone for youngsters moving up from the current 150cc class, will be perfect for those not yet ready to step up to 600cc machines.

Honda’s 250cc production bike will also give new and existing motorsport competitors more options in a sport known for its prohibitively high costs.

The CBR250R, launched in 2011, has an all-new 249cc single-cylinder, quad-valve, DOHC, fuel injected engine notable for its low-rev power and torque that continues throughout the rev range.

READY TO RACE

Its dry weight is also has one of the lowest in its class, while larger front discs promise better braking.

The current specifications allow competitors, with a small number of modifications, to include a race body kit, slight suspension tweaks, a performance exhaust and an aftermarket air filter – all of which are available in a race kit for the CBR250R.

Honda has made 10 of its CBR250Rs available for the first race of the season on February 4, 2012, at the Red Star Raceway near Delmas in Mpumalanga.

The CBR250R production bike is available from some Honda dealers countrywide.
