Latest and greatest from the EICMA

BMW Lo Rider

BMW calls this a “sporty, purist roadster study with an individually variable design”. We call it one of the ugliest bikes we’ve seen in recent times. You are looking at the latest concept unveiled by BMW Motorrad, and one that we reckon is extremely unlikely to go into production.

Powered by BMW’s ubiquitous torquey Boxer twin engine, the Lo Rider employs the latest in chassis technology for a sporty ride, but with a lowered seat and upright seating position there is some definite muscled cruiser blood pumping through its veins.

But none of this is what makes the Lo Rider worthy of your heard-earned cash according to BMW. You see, this bike takes customisation to a whole new level. Not only can you specify the colour, but also the exhaust system, headlamp design and seat. It still leaves us cold.

Ducati Streetfighter 1098

The biggest news at the Ducati stand was the unveiling of the much awaited Streetfighter, which is powered by the same engine as the mighty 1098 superbike.

At heart the Streetfighter is still a superbike, but this latest model from the Italian manufacturer combines speed with real street cred and naked sophistication. Gone are the fairings and non-essential bits of the 1098, and replaced instead with exposed styling that takes Ducati’s naked concept to the top of the food chain with 115.5 kW of Italian muscle.

Ducati 1198

Although the latest superbike from Ducati, the 1198, looks exactly the same as the outgoing 1098, the company claims that it is in fact a completely new bike. With 125 kW from its new Testastretta Evoluzione engine, the 1198 incorporates all the of the World Superbike technology that the company derived directly from the 2008 World Championship winning race bike of Troy Bayliss.

To mark Bayliss’ 3rd Superbike World Championship, who has now retire from motorcycle racing, Ducati also showed a Limited Edition 1098 R.

KTM 990 Supermoto T

KTM is pushing the Supermoto concept to a new level with the unveiling of its 990 Supermoto T. The company describes the latest arrival as a versatile machine that is best suited to extended touring and long distances on the tar.

Based on the 990 Supermoto which was launched earlier this year, the new Travel Version with its 86 kW powersource, now features a modified chassis construction and multifunctional cockpit.
