Harley unveils '09 model range

Harley-Davidson has unveiled its range of 2009 motorcycles in the USA, and by the looks of it there is plenty to get excited about.

The biggest attraction is the V-Rod Muscle, a whole new V-Rod with a chopped off tail and seriously solid looks. The massive 240 mm rear tire and five-spoke cast aluminium wheels also add to its, er, muscularity.

A sleek combination stop/tail/turn LED light has been tucked under the edge of the rear fender to leave the back-end clean and tidy, and Harley also opted for a side-mounted license plate to keep the uncluttered feel.

On the front end expect toned-down bling with satin finished upside-down forks, and a blacked out fender. Power comes courtesy of a liquid cooled 1 250cc Revolution V-Twin engine.

The other star in the cast is the Tri Glide Ultra Classic, a three-wheeled version of the normal Ultra Classic tourer. This trike is something to behold but it’s very unlikely that Harley will be bringing it to South Africa.

The frame of the Tri Glide has been engineered to specifically handle the loads generated by the steering forces and weight of a three-wheel vehicle. The forks, for example, have been lengthened and the rake increased. Steering dampers keep wobbles and bumps at a minimum.

Powered by a Twin Cam 103 V-Twin engine with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), the Tri Glide keeps the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission normally used on Harley’s Touring motorcycles, but adds an optional electric reverse to help move this behemoth from a parked position.

A serious of changes have been made across the range for 2009, mainly to the bodywork and wheels, to ensure the Harley models stay fresh for next year. For more information on all the 2009 Harley-Davidson models check back to Wheels24.
