American scooter manufacturer Zev has issued a “challenge” to established electric bike brands like Zero Motorcycles, Brammo and Vectrix to trump the performance of its Zev7000 scooter.
“We tell them to bring their street legal production bike and to bring their betting money. There can be only one ‘fastest’ street legal production electric motor scooter or bike in the world,” the company says.
Designed to be a commuter bike, the ZEV7000 allegedly runs at speeds in excess of 113km/h which should make it plenty capable for the odd bit of highway riding. At these sort of speeds the ZEV7000 has a range of 112km to 88km.
The company claims the ZEV7000 is “at least 16km/h faster than the Vectrix VX-1E and faster with more range than the more expensive Vectrix VX-1.”
ZEV continues with its boasting saying their scooter is faster with 17% more range than the more expensive Zero S and just as fast as the Brammo Enertia Bike, but the ZEV has 41% more range.
One area where the ZEV7000 does trump the Vectrix’s offering is on the scale. The Vectrix measures in at a sizeable 234kg whereas the ZEV7000 only pushes the scale to 134kg, which is sure to make a difference to its performance.
The ZEV7000 is retailing at $8 000 (R60 000) in the States.
