Bimota unveils HB4

This is Bimota’s first Honda-powered bike in the last 25 years. And what a beauty it is. Launched alongside the new Bimota DB8, the company’s Moto2 race bike combines strikingly chiselled looks and plenty of Italian sex appeal with a reliable Honda powertrain.

The chassis is a signature trellis frame, only this time round Bimota has opted for a steel/magnesium version – the trellis frame is steel and is attached to the aluminium swingarm using aircraft technology. It also features an adjustable steering head and engine mounts system.

At the heart of the new Moto2 contender pumps a CBR600RR engine, but with the HB4 weighing a massive 51kg less than the 2010 CBR600RR, this powertrain will be packing a much meatier punch. Stopping power comes courtesy of Brembo monoblocs and 300mm disc brakes while its suspension was taken care of by Paioli in the front and Öhlins in the rear.

For now Bimota is focusing squarely on the Moto2 series (the new 600cc prototype World Championship series in which contenders are powered by a mandatory Honda 600cc engine), but the company hasn’t ruled out the possibility that we may see a road-going version of the HB4, depending on its Moto2 success.
