Entries for the KEI Junior National aren’t significantly high for the penultimate round of the 2012 Junior National Off-road championship for young motorcycle and quad competitors aged seven to 17 on September 15 2012.
However, those who do travel to East London will enjoy competing in this new event while having another chance to score points towards titles.

The competition has been tough in the Open Motorcycle Class and the 125cc Motorcycle classes making the front runners eager and ready for action.
Only two points separate the leading riders in each class – Louw Schmidt (Suzuki) took his first win in the Open Class at the most recent event outside Wolmaransstad, North West Province, and has leapfrogged the previous leader, Andrew Wren (Yamaha), who won the first two events of the season.
Only a handful of points separate the rest. Third-placed Estiaan Steenkamp (Yamaha) has visited the podium twice and is only seven points ahead of Jaycee Nienaber (Yamaha) who claimed his first podium position at Wolmaransstad.
Nienaber will have to keep his cool as the Junior Roof winner, Damien Scott (Yamaha), would like to make up for some lost points after he crashed out in the last event.
Nienaber’s team mate, Bradley Nortje, has been steadily improving his results and is sixth while a healthy number of points for Scott’s team mate, Kyle Flannagan, who is currently ninth in this class championship, can result in him moving up on the standings.
125CC CLASS
The battle between 125cc Class leader, Travis Teasdale (Yamaha) and Brett Swanepoel (KTM) will continue and either could win. Each has won twice this season, but while Teasdale has finished as the runner-up behind Swanepoel twice, the latter is still two points behind in the championship as he had to settle for third at the season opener.
Consistency, including third at Wolmaransstad, has seen Brendon Fourie (Husaberg) move into the third place, but only nine points separate him from Aeron Thompson (KTM) in fourth.
Five points separate the three riders behind Thompson but this is not enough for them to feel comfortable in their current positions. Corbin Lamb (Yamaha) is fifth, three points ahead of Jan Human (KTM) who can increase his two point lead ahead of an injured Eamonn Sullivan.
SENIOR 85CC CLASS
2011 Senior 85cc champion Angus Coetzee (Yamaha) is seventh but has not had the best season so far and good points might see him move past Sullivan. Gerhard Grove (KTM) and Ross Blackwell (KTM), ninth and 10th respectively, could pass John de Souza who is eighth, but whose name isn't on the entry list.
In the Senior 85cc Class, runner-up Alastair Drennan (KTM) will be chasing class leader, Bradley Cox (KTM) who has just returned from a series of international motocross events in Europe. Drennan is within striking distance of Cox who will feel the pressure and can't afford to put a wheel wrong. Reghardt van Niewenhuizen (KTM) is third and will have to ensure he stays ahead of fourth-placed Chayse Orsmond (Yamaha) who is just two points behind him. Matt van Galen is fifth, but has broken an arm and will not compete.
After four victories Jaco Moller (Suzuki) is still leading the Senior Open Quad Class but the gap to second-placed Adriaan Uys (Kawasaki) is not big enough for him to relax for a moment. Uys would like to forget about the mechanical problems resulting in him finishing sixth at Wolmaransstad while his second place at the most recent event – his third podium position this season – will serve as an extra motivation for Joshua Schenk (Yamaha) to repeat this result. Only one point separates them.
CAPE RIDERS
Schenk is leading a multitude of Western Cape riders who have been consistently competing and scoring points. Kevin Crouse (Yamaha) is fourth and has been on the podium twice – he is seven points ahead of fifth-placed William Nutt (Suzuki) while Dillon Joubert (Yamaha) is quite safe in sixth. Wernich van der Walt (Yamaha) is eighth and can move up a position if fellow Capetonian Kenan Kotze does not enter.
Tyrone Renwick (Yamaha) has regained the lead in the Junior Open Quad Class and one point right behind him is the girl from Richard’s Bay, Jade Schutte (Yamaha), while Tristan Joubert (Yamaha), who has won twice this season, is third. Brodie Jacobs (Yamaha) will aim for a fifth victory in the Junior Modified Quad Class where Wilmarie Moller (Yamaha) is second.
Calvin Hume (Yamaha) has a comfortable lead in the Junior 85cc Class of the although he has only won once this season. Runner-up Tristan Asher-Wood (KTM) has wonl three races, but could not finish the Montagu event and is 17 points behind Hume. Third-placed Keegan Coetzee is injured and will not be competing. In the 65cc Class the battle will again continue between class leader Stefan van Deventer (KTM) and Matthew Green (KTM) who are separated by only five points.
The intrigue will deepen after the KEI Junior National and the standings in most of the class championships might still change as competitors have to drop a set of results at the end of the season.
All the KEI Junior National action will take place from Cypressdale Farm outside Gonubie in the East London area. The junior and senior quad competitors will tackle the race from 08:30am while all the motorcycle competitors will race from 12:30pm.
