HUSQVARNA RETRUNS WITHOUT BMW: BMW say it will operate Husqvarna as a separate niche brand and the bikes will be marketed through its dealer network in SA.

Husqvarna Motorcycles, part of the BMW Group, will be available locally through CMH Marine and Leisure, a division of Combined Motor Holdings, from July 26 2012

Apart from South Africa, the group will be distributing the motorcycles to Namibia and Lesotho.

Max Kalbfell, sales and marketing manager of Husqvarna, said: “South Africa is one of the most important future markets for Husqvarna Motorcycles. Having CMH as a partner is a great opportunity for us to develop and expand the Husqvarna network giving our customers premium support and service.”

THIRD OLDEST BIKE MANUFACTURER

Rob Holder, general manager of BMW SA, said: “I am confident that the Husqvarna brand will make a substantial impact in the South African motorcycle market and wish Husqvarna Motorcycles every success for the future.”

The bicycle division of the Husqvarna armaments company began building motorcycles in 1903 and is the third-oldest motorcycle manufacturer in the world behind Harley-Davidson (1903) and Triumph (1902).

Fred Fensham, general manager of CMH Marine said: “The excitement of expanding our leisure division with such a quality brand is huge for us, and will compliment and endorse our current business.

"With this link to the leisure market in SA, and an understanding of the trends, dealer network and support structure required to launch and grow the Husqvarna Motorcycles brand in SA, the future growth and establishment of the brand is very exciting,” he said.
