Back in June 2012 Wheels24 reported on the return to our shores of Husqvarna, the (originally Swedish) bike brand that made a huge impact on the off-road racing scene in the 1960’s and early 1970’s.
This week, at the formal launch of Husqvarna’s South African operation, we were given more detail about what the future holds.
EXTENSIVE NETWORK
Combined Motor Holdings, whose Marine and Leisure division has taken local custody of the BMW-owned brand, announced that it was fully geared to support the bikes – although the first batch of bikes (excluding the demos we were shown) had not yet landed a full shipment of spares and accessories is already in stock.
Much of the evening was given to handing out certificates to the new dealers and freshly trained technical staff which served to illustrate not only that CMH is developing an extensive dealer network (with dealers as far afield as Namibia) but also that technical staff at the dealers (and, in some cases, the dealer principals themselves) are fully trained to work on the bikes.
The good news is that initially Husqvarna’s entire range (including the flagship Nuda 900) will be available locally. CMH intends to evaluate how the models sell before gradually evolving a model range suited to the SA market.
Several Husqvarna models will be on display at the AMiD motorcycle show at the 2012 National Exhibition Centre in Gauteng (August 24-26) and the bikes will be available at dealers during September 2012.
