READY TO GO: The 2011 Journey of Hope ride hits the road from October 9.
The Journey of Hope team is on the move and will be visiting towns across South Africa in October, 2011.
The Journey of Hope Breast Cancer Awareness Ride, initiated in 2006, will see a volunteer group of breast cancer survivors travel across South Africa on Honda motorcycles to highlight the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer .
This year, the group – including one male – will travel to far-flung communities often neglected by traditional structures to explain what the signs are of breast cancer.
With the assistance of The Journey of Hope’s sponsors, 12 women have already been provided with breast reconstructions, at least 10 with prosthesis, while and one lady has received chemotherapy.
Founders and breast cancer survivors Diane Parker and Aileen Taylor said: "In 2011 we look forward to reaching rural communities in Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the North West Provinces. We are working closely with local municipalities, clinics and Cansa support groups in each of the areas that we will be visiting."
