Harley-Davidson is continuing its ride into South Africa with the introduction of Project Rushmore and has launched a new Dark Custom motorcycle designed for young urban riders.

The Harley-Davidson Street 750 – the first all-new platform from Harley-Davidson in 14 years – is, its maker says, "built for the city with an all-new liquid-cooled Revolution X engine, nimble agility and the sound and look that lets everybody know it's a genuine Harley-Davidson".

The new Street 750 was introduced at the Ultimate X 2015 at Cape Town's Grand West Arena - a show of stunt motor-cycle riding, skateboarding and acrobatic cycling.

RIDING GEAR

Michael Carney, H-D SA's marketing manager, said: "The new Street 750 is the latest motorcycle to join our Dark Custom genre. It was designed with input from thousands of customers, riders and dealers around the world and proof that being customer-led continues to be a core driver of our product development process.”

The new Street 750 motorcycle with a suggested retail price of R89 999, a report says, is now an affordable option for young adults thanks to a limited introductory offer of R750 per month, including two years insurance, 16 000km or three-year service plan, on-the-road costs and a R5000 dealer voucher for riding gear.

Carney added: “The Harley-Davidson Street 750 can manage the unique challenges faced by riders in South African cities. Manoeuvrability, unique Dark Custom style and liquid-cooled power meet the needs of urban riders in a stylish genuine Harley-Davidson package."

The Dark Custom line-up also includes the Sportster Iron 883, Sportster Forty-Eight, Dyna Street Bob and the Dyna Fat Bob.

There is a Harley-Davidson dealer in Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Boksburg, Pretoria, Durban and Nelspruit as well as on the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius and Reunion

Here's the full story of the escalating payment deal:

• R750 per month for first 2 years, R950 per month for the third year and R1482 a month for remaining three years.
• 72 month period, 12% interest rate
• 10% deposit, 30% residual

• First two years Harley-Davidson insurance covered
• 16 000 km / three-year Harley-Davidson service covered
• R5000 Harley-Davidson dealer voucher for riding gear included
• On-the-road costs covered (licensing, number plate etc)

Total payments under the special Harley-Davidson deal, including deposit and residual, will be R121 750 from which can be subtracted the value of the two years' insurance, service plan and R5000 retail value of the clothing voucher.

Alternatively, the base price of the motorcycle is R89 999 - almost exactly the same as the retail price in the good ol' US of A!
