Full house for Bike Economy Run

The 30th annual national motorcycle economy run will take place over August 26/27. It has attracted a full complement of 55 competitors and it is organised by the Pretoria Motor Club.

The race will start from Magalieskruin, Pretoria, on Friday and finish at the Numbi Hotel in Hazyview on Saturday afternoon.
 
Among the entries, competing in 13 classes and representing 12 manufacturers and engine sizes from 600 to 1600cc, are several previous winners. 

They include two-time winner Reg Gurnell (KTM 690 Duke R), 2009 winner Kristene Smuts (Can-Am Spyder) and 2010 runner-up Peter de la Rey (BMW F800ST).

STRUGNELL TO COMPETE AGAIN

Clive Strugnell (Honda CBR 1000), who has not missed an event in three decades, will be among the competitors. 

The event will featrue two more female riders - Glynese de Villiers (Ducati ST45) and Judy Rudolph (Suzuki SV 650 S).

Blind rally navigator Bonita Blankenberg will sit behind rally driver Jerry Paice (Gilera GP800) as one of eight lady pillion passengers.

Motor racing personalities include current Off-Road National championship co-drivers Hennie ter Stege (BMW 1600GT) and Richard Carolin (Honda Africa Twin).
 
The 2011 route, over 520km on Friday, will take competitors from Pretoria to Marble Hall via Cullinan, to Ohrigstad via Groblersdal, Steelpoort/Burgersfort, Roossenekal and Lydenburg via Graskop and Kowyn’s Pass to the overnight stop at the Numbi Hotel in Hazyview. 
 
The Saturday 550km route will take the bikers from Hazyview to Graskop, Pilgrim’s Rest, Robber’s Pass, Lydenburg, Long Tom Pass, Nelspruit, Kaapschehoop, Ngodwana, Waterval Boven, Schoemanskloof, towards Nelspruit, on to Sudwala Caves and Rosehaugh, and over Long Tom Pass to Sabie, White River and to the official finish back in Hazyview.
