EICMA show - 2013 Dukes on display

MILAN, Italy – Ducati officially unveiled its 2013 range at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy.

Gabriele Del Torchio, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, explained the international market situation and the business success achieved by the Italian automaker in 2012. Despite economic difficulties, Ducati’s growth trend has continued with an increase in production and sales.

Del Torchio said: “Since 2007, we have only seen “red” on the bodywork of our bikes. Ducati’s record turnover of 2011, looks set to increase 20% further by the close of 2012, with over 44 000 motorcycles registered.

“With the arrival of the new shareholders, Ducati is in stronger hands than ever, and being part of the Audi Group will definitely contribute to Ducati’s growth and expansion. This acquisition acknowledges the value of everyone who works in our company, the value of the Ducati brand, and of its past achievements.

NEW MODELS ON DISPLAY

Claudio Domenicali, general manager of Ducati, said, “Here at EICMA 2012 we present one totally new model and a series of significantly updated models in line with our strategic plan.”

“The Hypermotard is completely new. Technologically enhanced and presented in standard and SP versions, it has a brand new four-valve per cylinder, liquid-cooled, Testastretta 11 engine, equipped also with our new secondary air system.

“With our passion for racing and sport bikes, we just had to produce an 'R' version of the 1199 Panigale. The R title represents Ducati’s maximum expression of technology.”

NEXT-GENERATION HYPERMOTARD

Ducati's next Hypermotard sees the introduction of three new models - Hypermotard, SP and Hyperstrada. The Hypermotard and SP versions are suited for daily riding, while the Hyperstrada is tailored to long distance adventure biking.

The models introduce the new 82kW 821cc Testastretta 11 engine in a new Trellis frame equipped with top-of-the range chassis components. The Hyperstrada is accessorised with touring-oriented specification and styling.

The models are equipped with ABS, traction control and riding modes.

NEXT DUCATI SUPERBIKE

At the EICMA show, Ducati unveils its flagship 2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale R which has enhanced technical specification for the World Superbike championship.

The 1199 Panigale R is finished in Ducati red with white racing features, and brushed aluminium on the fuel tank.

The “R” model builds on the S specification with a number of upgrades. Titanium con-rods (0.63kg) and a 0.7kg lighter crankshaft flywheel serve to reduce weight. DLC-coated rocker-arms and revised engine mapping now enhance the Superquadro engine’s crank acceleration and allow it to rev 500rpm higher to a 12 000rpm limit.

The model has a new four-point adjustable swingarm pivot and a race kit consisting of racing screen, fairing mirror caps and a Termignoni exhaust system with ECU mapping (for track use only).

Additional enhancements include lightweight carbon fibre rear hugger, rear suspension guard, ignition switch surround and top fairing inner panels. The model weighs 165kg.

The top-of-the-range model is also fitted with a race-style seat fabric and a GPS-enhanced Ducati data system, for automatic lap times and circuit map-linked data.

2013 DUCATI DIAVEL STRADA

A surprise entry for the Diavel family comes in the form of the new Diavel Strada. The new model is designed for longer journeys, has been accessorised with touring-friendly components for riding comfort.

The model has improved wind protection and the rider’s posture is further improved for long distances with higher handlebars swept backwards. Seat comfort has been improved through revised cushioning. The model has heated grips and two auxiliary power outlets for heated clothing or navigation accessories.

The passenger’s ride has also been improved with a back-rest, grab-rails and revised footpegs.
