Meet the Ducati 1199 Panigale, the most advanced sport bike the Italian manufacturer has yet built, according to Ducati GM Claudio Domenicali. This model is meant to reinforce the company’s racing roots following two years of focusing on new segments with the Multistrada 1200 and Diavel.
Gabriele Del Torchio, the company’s CEO, explained: "Hard work by the people at Ducati that has resulted in the positive results that I present today and it validates the strategy we followed during the period 2007-2011.
“All of this has enabled us to present the incredible new 1199 Panigale, the new benchmark in the sport bike arena. Without doubt, this has been the most ambitious project in Ducati’s history and underlines our engineering excellence and ‘product emotion’, an aspect of our brand which, in such a competitive market place, has become more important than ever.”
PURE ITALIAN STYLE
According to Del Torchio, the new model represents pure Italian style, the reference point for performance and a safety-enhanced, confidence-inspiring experience for Ducati customers on road and track.
Pronounced as Pan-ee-gah-lee, the company’s latest addition weighs in at only 188kg and courtesy of a redesigned V-twin mill kicks out a brilliant 143kW and 132Nm of torque.
RACING ROOTS
An extensive range of electronic gadgetry, which includes ABS, traction control, ride-by-wire, engine brake control and electronically adjustable suspension, ensures that this power is also greatly accessible.
In addition to the standard Panigale, Ducati will manufacture two other derivates of the model – the S and a Corse model.
Compared to the standard version, the S model gains electronically adjustable 43mm Ohlins NIX30 forks and TTX36 shock while the Corse model is treated to a titanium racing exhaust, racing-ready tricolore colour scheme and data analysis package to help you improve your lap times.
“Throughout our long and successful twin-cylinder history of racing, Ducati has never built a sportbike as advanced as the 1199 Panigale,” said Claudio Domenicali.
“We are moving into a new generation with a ‘revolution’ of the species that establishes new limits for the category. Its Desmodromic heart, the new Superquadro engine, is the most powerful twin-cylinder ever produced and represents the base of a new concept of frame and engine integration.”
