POLE - AND A RECORD: Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo not only took pole for the 2012 Czech MotoGP but also broke the qualifying lap record.

Brno, Czech Republic - Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo was on record-breaking pace during qualifying for the 2012 Czech MotoGP here on Saturday and took pole for Sunday’s race.

The front row will be shared by Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow and Honda’s Dani Pedrosa.

CRUTCHLOW FOR 2013

Lorenzo’s time in the high 1min55s only narrowly beat Crutchlow into second on the grid, according to the MotoGP website, despite the Brit crashing half way through the session. Crutchlow re-signed with the squad for 2013 on Saturday and put in his best MotoGP qualifying result yet.

Pedrosa’s quali session got off to a bad start when he dropped his bike in the early stages.

The second row will be led by Lorenzo’s team mate Ben Spies in fourth with slot five filled by Andrea Dovizioso who had to park his bike with a technical problem and Ducati’s Valentino Rossi in sixth place.

Row three will accommodate Stefan Bradl, Alvaro Bautista and local rider Karel Abraham, who will have delighted his home fans despite dropping his bike in the gravel at the end.

Aspar’s Randy de Puniet – another rider who tumbled – will start 10th.
