Vintage icon sells for R1.1m

A 1920 Brough Superior motorcycle has shattered its expected sale price to close on a whopping R1.1m at a recent Bonhams auction.

In its catalogue before the auction, Bonhams’ estimate for the iconic classic was pegged between R632 000 and R750 000.

“The Brough Superior has been justly compared to both Bugatti and Rolls-Royce based on looks, performance and desirability, resulting with the Nottingham make building a comparable reputation almost since its inception,” says the motorcycle’s description on the Bonhams website.

This Overhead 680 example of the British classic was largely in original condition and without any significant changes from the day it was dispatched on July 8th 1929.
