Even if your German isn’t quite up to scratch this video is well worth watching as the hottest new model from the world of BMW Motorrad in many years races against one of the finest American muscle cars ever.

With 2004 German IDM Supersport champion Werner Daemen in the saddle of the BMW, and the most powerful Corvette of all time on the other side of the line, you’d expect a reasonably fair fight. Right?

The BMW S1000 RR is one of the finest litre superbikes on the market, and boasts 142kW and 112Nm from its in-line four-cylinder engine. Certainly not to be sniffed at.

Beating under the bonnet of its ZR1 opponent beats a supercharged 6.2-litre V8. The ‘Vette’s powerhouse normally creates a stonking 469kW and tears to 100km in 3.4 seconds, but this specially tuned model channels an insanely mighty 515kW to its rear tyres – nearly four times more than the Beemer.

It also boasts extra wide 345mm tyres at the rear, but will that provide sufficient traction to get enough of that power onto the tar to beat the bike?
