BMW unveils new bike GPS

BMW has announced the next generation of its BMW Motorrad Navigator IV bike friendly satnav. The new system, which is developed in conjunction with Garmin and is based on the Zumo 660, boasts a larger 4.3-inch screen, faster processor and lane assistant to ensure you’re never in the wrong lane again.

It has bluetooth with the ability to connect with a headset or bluetooth enabled helmet for turn-by-turn directions, cellphone calls or to listen to MP3s wirelessly. What appeals especially are the oversized buttons that make programming a route easy, even with your gloves still on.

The Navigator IV comes preloaded with a detailed street map, BMW dealer database and the usual Points of Interest. In some major metropolitan areas, surrounding buildings are displayed in a 3D transparent view. The unit is fitted to your bike with a specialised mounting bracket which is compatible with all BMW motorcycle models.

The Navigator IV is scheduled to go on sale towards the end of the year. No pricing has yet been confirmed.
