LONDON, England - A motorcyclist trapped at 244km/h on a road in Sussex, England, has been disqualified from riding/driving.
Steven Tull was caught riding his Yamaha R1 by a speed camera in October 2011 in west Sussex. At the time it was the fastest speed recorded by a traffic camera in the country.
According to the Daily Mail, Tull was found guilty by a Worthing Magistrates' Court of dangerous driving, speeding and driving without a valid test certificate.
'IT WAS A MISTAKE'
The court banned him from driving/riding for a year, ordered him to complete 200 hours of voluntary work and he was billed for R8622 in prosecution costs.
His lawyer, Marie Lewiecki, told the court Tull has never had a previous speeding offence in 20 years. His client admitted he was speeding but that he didn't know how fast he was going, the Daily Mail reported.
He told the court, "I had a momentary lack of discipline. There was no reason to keep accelerating. It was a mistake, I shouldn't have exceeded the limit.”
District Judge Hine said: “I know you find it hard to accept your driving was dangerous. The reason you were convicted of dangerous driving is what could have happened.
“You could have been involved in a fatal accident, it was an unbelievable speed. You could have lost control of the vehicle and put other people at risk.
“That nothing happened is nothing short of good fortune. The defendant had no idea what speed he was driving at any stage.
"I find that incredible," he said.
