Benelli back in SA 25 years on

Italian bikemaker Benelli has announced its return to the South African market after an absence of 25 years.

The brand will mark its return at the AMiD show at the Nasrec Expo Centre in johannesburg over August 24-26 2012 by showing five new models.

Benelli, one of the world's oldest motorcycle brands, was founded as a family business in 1911' the name also became famous for the manufacture of its shotguns.

While Benelli still operates from its original site in Pesaro, Italy, it is now part of the Chinese Quianjiang Group and will be distributed in South Africa by Puzey Motor Corporation SA.  

The five new motorcycles on display at AMiD will be Benelli’s Café 600cc and 1130cc Café Racer, 120kW TNT 1130, and 1130 Trek and Trek Amazonas, with prices ranging from R60 000 for the 600cc Café to between R125 000 and R150 000 for the 1130cc three-cylinder models.

Furthermore, Puzey has been commissioned to develop a touring version of the Trek model for Benelli Italy in 2013. Owner Mike Puzey is a prolific inventor and designer said to have more than 25 international patents to his name.

Puzey will also use the AMiD stage to showcase the latest addition to its own range – a 300cc two-stroke Race Enduro bike produced in South Africa using a Puzey frame and an engine sourced from Italy.
