19 SA riders to battle FIM Africa champs

The Annual FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations event, part of the FIM Africa Continental championship, will see 19 South African riders racing in Kitwe, Zambia, this weekend -August 29-31 2014.

FIM Africa is the Continental Union for Motorcycling in Africa. The event moves to a different host country each year - 2014 is Zambia's turn at its Mindola track.

More than 120 riders from six African countries, some of them them multiple champions, will compete.

SA'S FEMALE RIDERS

The 2014 event marks the first time South Africa has sent a full Ladies team to compete in the ladies' class.

The South African team:
MX50cc: James Thompson
MX65cc: Jonathan Mlimi, Hayden Tully, Christiaan Cilliers
MX Lites: James van Sandwyk, Wikus van Sandwyk
MX125: Reid Sinnicks, Peter Thompson
MX2: Zane Farquharson,  Tyron Beverley, Tristan Cuthbert
MX1: Wade Den
Vets: Geoff Den
Ladies: Anais Steenkamp,  Natasha Rugani,  Brittany Cuthbert, Toni Jardine, Nanda Swiegers
Individual: Joshua Mlimi
 
The MXoAN is one of the few motorcycle events recognised as a "team" event: riders pointes will be totalled to determine the winning nation.

TWO DAYS OF RACING

There will be two practice sessions on Saturday (August 30) then racing will take place on Sunday (August 31) for these classes:  MX 125, MX 1, MX lite, MX 65, MX 2, MX 50, WMX and VMX .

The heats have been scheduled to start at
• Heat 1 - 8.50am
• Heat 2 - 11.05am
• Heat 3 – 2.20pm

It will be guaranteed action fthrough two days of great racing. The gates will open at at 7am.
