Peugeot guns at Corsa bakkie?

2010-03-11 09:30

Peugeot has revealed a pick-up with a 750 kg payload and a 207 face…

Like South Africa, bakkies are big in Brazil and Peugeot has answered to this call with the introduction of the Hoggar.

Designed in Brazil for its local market, Hoggar is an extension of the 207 line alongside the hatchback, sedan and station wagon. The company hopes to garner 10% of all pick-up sales in Brazil this year, with Hoggar providing the main thrust, of course.

The adorable little bakkie has a load volume of 1 151 litres and a payload of up to 742 kg.

It launches in Brazil in May with three trim levels and a choice between 1.4- and 1.6-litre engines.

While it seems an interesting proposal, the carmaker will restrict Hoggar sales to the Brazilian market for now.

Looks like a facelift Proton Arena. Butt-ugly. I'd rather push a Ford, Fiat or Opel, than drive this.

Faggot car!! and it looks like one of those awful fibreglass replacement bakkie bodies from the back..where did they find those silly oversize rear wheel arch extensions? The Brazil nuts are welcome to this!

Chris you are a complete douche bag. My 2005 1.4 Corsa UTE, bought new, now has 188 439 KMs on the clock, and I haven't had a single problem. Doesn't even rattle. You need to catch a wake up and see what's happening in the world of motoring before you throw your stupid comments around.

Chris, if so many people are complaining, why is it the 2nd best selling bakkie in SA? (just behind the Hilux) And therefore the best selling small bakkie in SA. Regarding your wild conspiracy theory about the Chev branding: The Corsa Utility has always been branded as a Chev in Brazil. GMSA is now getting in line with this as well as creating a stronger Chevy brand in SA.

Well first it a Peugeot with no resell value, no customer service and spares cost the price of the deposit on the vehicle, rather buy a BAKKIE a corsa, and to Chris the corsa has always been a Chevrolet, so get a wake up, the best bakkie is only a corsa, the amount of sales in SA, says it, Peugeot struggle in just selling cars in our country so keep your bakkie
Mark

@ chris - surely the SA bakkie driving population would disagree with you seeing as though the Corsa is the 2nd highest selling LCV on the market, with the first being the Hilux. And yes, it will be a sad day when the Corsa is rebadged as Chevrolet - however nothing to do with quality.

Opel Corsa UTE - The second best selling bakkie after the HILUX, for 62 consecutive months. There must be a reason for that...Nuff said.

In SA, people only buy two types of bakkies. Its either a Bantam or a Corsa. the rest are rubbish.

Have only had bad service from Peugeot in SA. Will certainly pass on this one, especially if it is meant to do proper work in a cost effective manner as a LCV is meant to do.

Is that a folksie bonet or just the camera angle? It may win gay bakie of the year award.

It is french. This means it will surrender after the first pothole. And then the dealers will surrender instead of fixing it. But seriously this will be an excellent car if you're trying to lose weight, because you'll be walking everywhere.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! As a run-about for small loads, it'll be just as good as any other LDV, and I place emphesis on the term LDV because "'n hond eet uit 'n bakkie"! This is Joey Rasdin on wheels, it should have a spinning bow tie and a flower on it coller, if you ask me... I hope it makes it to SA!

Both the NP200 and the Sandero are not Renaults. They are Dacias. Lets not get confused. @Mark, The Corsa Bakkie is ALSO just an adaptation of the front of the Corsa with no imagination. This looks good. Lets see how it is when it gets here.

Looks like a Fiat Strada with different head- and taillights. Does it have the 207 dashboard as well? Agree with hendrik, Peugeot relaibility in SA not the best.

Right, the first French car to release a bakkie.... Come to think of it, the NP200 is actually a Renault bakkie aswell... Looks exactly like a Sandero on the inside.... This bakkie looks great, BUT, Peugoet's after sales service?? Nah..

I have a Corsa bakkie and for good reason, it is simply the best looking light bakkie on the market. Seeing this, I still know I have the best bakkie on the market. The front is just an adapted version of the 207 car, no imagination and thought - strategy may be to extend the 207 product range but looks like a slap stick job. The rear is even worse with a thick black line that resembles a heavy, thickset eyebrow and lamp clusters that give a sad or depressed expression. May do well in Brazil, but highly doubt it would make headway in SA.

Not in the market for a small bakkie and have doubts about Peugeot reliability but this thing looks great!
