South Africa - The recent announcement of Lamborghini's Urus, a car they label as a Super Sport Utility Vehicle or SSUV, may have left people bewildered at the thought of the traditional supercar maker adding an SUV to its line up. 

But we know that car companies need make money and there's no better better cash cow than SUVs, despite that, it's still a shock to the system. But which other motoring stories caught us off guard this year? From luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz launching a bakkie, to Tesla's fully-electric truck, we look at five times automakers caught us off-guard in 2017.

5. Mercedes launching the X-Class Bakkie

As we know, Mercedes-Benz is renowned for building luxurious and exquisite vehicles. So by getting their hands and boots dirty by creating a rugged bakkie caught many people by surprise.
